Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. say they will collaborate on hardware and software products for 5G network requirements. The joint offerings will combine Samsung’s wireless-focused technology with Ciena’s xHaul and network automation platforms.

The collaboration begins with Samsung’s 5G RAN and core products (including virtualized RAN products, baseband units, and radios) combined with Ciena’s xHaul routing and switching portfolio and Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller. Together, the portfolio will support such advanced features as network slicing, IoT, and automation through artificial intelligence. The pre-validated joint offerings are said to be available immediately.
